Jackson Area Hauntings

I haven't updated this blog in a long while, for which I apologize. I was on a very relaxing vacation. But now I am back and ready to go to work...

Reader Kimberly from Jackson offers some ghost stories from her area:

*Harts Bridge Road (South Jackson)

- Only a few years ago, a girl and her boyfriend were below one of the bridges on Harts Bridge Road, when her father caught them. Her father and her boyfriend got into a fight and her father pulled a knife and stabbed her boyfriend. After her boyfriend was taken to the hospital, she thought he was dead and jumped off the bridge and killed herself. Every now and then, if you go out there at night, you can see her ghost floating across the bridge.

*Bascom Road (North Jackson)

- There is an old concrete bridge on Bascom Road where slaves were hung. If you drive onto the bridge and stop, your car goes dead and will not start back up until someone walks across the bridge and back. As you get the middle of the bridge, no matter how hot it is outside, you will feel a very cold spot. So if you are ever on Bascom Road DO NOT STOP ON A BRIDGE.

*Britton Lane Battlefield (Denmark Tennessee)

          - At Britton Lane Battlefield, if you go at night, after the battlefield is closed and sit outside for a while, you can hear the battle cries of the soldiers from the Civil War.

hey, i live in jackson as well. my friend and i went out to the harts bridge... bridge tonight. the story we're familiar with is a little different, but it serves the purpose none-the-less. as far as bascom goes... my friends and i have also heard stories of the bridge on john smith road, about a mile north of bascom off of windy city. it's not very creepy anymore, since much of the surrounding area is becoming more and more domesticated, but supposedly, if you turn your car off and go under the bridge and say "i have your baby" (i don't know the back story) then your car will not start when you return. like i said, it is not very scary anymore, but still an adventure anyway. by the way, i've been told of a haunted "doll house" in three way, humboldt, or milan. if anyone knows what i'm talking about then could you help me out? thanks.

this kinda isnt in the jackson area man, but me and my friends ere having an airsoft gun war in the woods next to the golf course by the two rivers mansion in TN, which the golf course is said to be haunted to, well my friend fell down a cliff by accident in the forest around 10 at night, and my other friend went down to to see if he was alrite. they both looked up and claim they saw an extremely tall white figure somehow walking straight up the cliff, just stood in front of them then vanished. SO i think this was probably a sighting of a ghost around the springhouse golf course.

The doll house is in Medina. I have been there twice and it is actually a sad story behind it. Also, I lived abut 5 miles if that from the bridge that is said to be haunted. its a true story and the boyfriend still lives in jackson.

this is Nick J. again. i finally made it out to the doll house, and i must say that it really isn't creepy by any means. it's in a cemetary, and going to a cemetary after dark can be scary, but the "doll house" isn't even a doll house. someone not knowing the urban legend behind it would probably think it's a utility shed in the back of the cemetary. it looks more like a dog house than a doll house. if anyone has ever wanted to go out there then by all means do so, but don't expect anything too scary. if the girl's grave didn't have walls over it, nobody would have ever thought to make up a story about it in the first place.

hey you guys my name is kye, i have been going to bascum for 6 years and have been there numerous times, the bridge is not the part to focus on, you need to keep driving, past it, there is a sign that says it is a dead end but it is not, if you keep driving you will come upon and old plantation house on the right, someone lives there it is real pretty during the day, but at night around 12 it is not so pretty, there is a white fence that outlines there property, if you keep driving you will go along this fence line and the road will be covered with trees, drive until you the trees end and there is an opening to a field to the left you cant miss it, park your car off the road here and begin to walk to where you just drove, you have to be quiet and have no lights, or this will not work, as you walk keep your eyes pealed to four main places, as far as you can see down the road above your head in the trees, in the open fields to the left, and especially your back, as your walking down the road you may hear barks of a dog, the dog has red eyes and stands as tall as a deer, do not run or it will chase you, keep walking no matter what, in the fields there is a white ghost figure that flies across the field, i mean this field is huge and this thing goes across it in seconds, it more cool than scary to me, and if you keep looking ahead at the end of the road there will be light, only one time out of the six years i have studied this road have i seen it face to face, it one of the slaves that were hung, and he haunts that road where his kin were killed, the last thing that will follow the majority of the crowd, it is just an white orb, it protects you, when you are near it the dog will not come near you, the trick is that you have to find it, it will be somewhere on the road usually if you can make it to turn, way back where the gate is, and start back to your car it will be with you, i would ask if anyone has done this but i dont care if you dont believe me, i have gone by myself and with a group it is HAUNTED, i promise you will not regret going out there, one more thing, there still maybe a house across the street from where you park your car, the dog is supposedly guarding that house, if you want to see the dog, you dont have to go there, just gone down the road as planned, to enhance ghost activity, honk your horn before you start walking...if you dont believe me call me and we will go 731.234.4953

In answer to Nick J's question about the Doll House, it is in Medina. Nut you have to be careful goin there now because the keeper of the place now lives at the begining of the street and allows no1 there between dark and dawn due to people destroying the place.

When I went down the bascom road past the dead end sign where ike was describing, something different happened...actually a lot of different stuff happened that wasn't in any of the posts i saw. first, my friend and i saw a "glowing light" on the side of the gravel road and i decided to see what it was..when i got within about a few feet of it, something moved right next to me, and at first i thought my friend threw a rock or something but he swore ten times to me that he didnt. second, and this might have nothing to do with it but it was still really cool, we saw the weirdest "shooting star" come soaring out of the sky and it looked like fireworks actually because it was that close to us. the third thing we saw was a "white figure" walking toward us as we were going back to our cars that we parked in that field area off the side of the road that you can't miss and a second after we saw this white figure a car with its headlights on came literally out of nowhere down the road chasing after us. the weird thing about this was that we took two cars, we left at different times and both of us saw the strange car right behind us both, my other friend said he saw the car on his tail for the first hundred yards but my car was in front of this car that was chasing us the whole time. i was a skeptic of this place before i came but now i'm almost convinced that it IS haunted. so much strange stuff happened that you couldn't say it was coincidence.

Went out to Bascom saturday night Sept. 29 2007...The gate was locked so we stayed outside of the gate..one of the people I was with started making loud noises and I SWEAR ON MY LIFE we could hear foot steps tracking through the trees...and YES there IS a difference between a person walking and a deer walking!!!

i used to go to school in medina and a boy that i went to school with about 6 or 7 years ago completely smashed the original dollhouse that is why it is said not to be haunted! BECAUSE the one he tore down was actually her dollhouse when she was alive and i sit here today to tell you it was haunted!!!! i went there with my friends one night alittle after midnight and before we got up there we seen a small white shiny light just outside the house, i was totally creeped out, when we walked up to it there was a old stlye rag doll inside and it was standing, fell on its face and turned over! it was mid august and NO WIND!!! i ran like hell! i have been out there twice since the NEW doll house has been up and i have not witnessed anything!

OMG my friends and i went their last saturday night after our school dance at the Nelson's Barn and we went on to the Bascom Road, bridge we barely made it half way because it got freezing cold and I heard a noise and screamed lol. but goin back across to turn back around my dad turned off his headlights and the only light was from the moon, we turned the radio off and rolled down the windows and stopped on the bridge, when i did i looked on the right side of the bridge and saw a shadow of a figure of a body hanging and it was swaying back and forth, it was a shadow though it was really weird and it sent a chill up my spine and through my body and I got this uncomfortable feeling like its time to get out of here. Could someone explain to me why I felt like that. * But the first time we went out there it was after the TCAvsUSJ game and I read about it and so the group of friends went with me but I walked across it the whole way and back and I stopped and it felt like someone or something was watching me, but out of us three and my dad I was the only one both times that felt and saw something really unexplainable and eerie.

The dollhouse in Medina has been changed in the last few years. So many people were visiting the grave site that family of the little girl removed the windows. Also they removed all the doll house furniture. You could go to the grave and the furniture would be moved every nite. There was also a light that would come on and a little rocking chair that would always rock at night inside the doll house. True story

hey ive lived around jackson all my life and ive heard all these stories. but the only place that really ever made me feel uneasy. was little place called purdy. and let me tell you the old house, alot of the things you hear about it are true. trust me. me and some freinds went out there one night and expreinced things that... well I cant explain them. so if you really wanna see something go to that old house and dont forget about the cemetary just about 100 yards up the road.

Dollhouse--
I went to the Dollhouse today....Nothing weird happened other than the fact that I was kinda freaked out to begin with.
Oh and why are there SO MANY dead infant daughters in that graveyard.

The dollhouse is new.... Who put the new dollhouse up? I mean she died in 1931... Her parents and brothers and sisters are long since dead....

The was a crack in the window opposite from the door....Like it had been busted...

I've done the whole Bascom Road tour and I must say I was extremely disappointed. All I received is annoyances from its residence due to its property being owned privately.

I don't blame them... it's got to be pretty annoying seeing idiots out there every weekend for an absent thrill.

I live close to Harts Bridge Rd. but never experienced any supernatural occurrences there.

Has anyone every heard of the Blue Light Cemetery that used to be where the present-day Columns are?

I was just curious as to where you got the info about Harts Bridge Road. I have lived in Jackson for 18 years and I have never heard any such story, nor has it ever been in the news.

I grew up in The Timbers neighborhood next to the Bascom Rd. bridge. I never had any thing happen to me but growing up I always heard of a haunted house on Adair Rd. near Bascom Rd. I'm a police officer and wouldn't advise anyone go down to where Bascom rd. ends. Nuff said. As to the Harts Bridge Rd. ghost, I heard growing up the it was a car wreck that happened there and if you stop a headless woman would come up out of the woods. John Kilzer wrote a song about it in the eighties but I only heard it once and don't know the words. I lived on Fairmont Street downtown for a couple of years and that place was really haunted. I'll write about it and post it sometime. I also have other stories I've heard over the years. Being a cop you hear such things.

The Harts Bridge Rd. story is at least thirty years old. It was a car wreck that happened at the river bridge near Perry Switch Rd. It happened when the bridge was an old iron bridge. A womwan hit the bridge. As the story goes she was decapitated and if you go there at night and stop on the bridge, honk then blink your lights three times she will come up out of the woods looking for her head.
The Bascom Rd. Bridge was built in the early eighties and I used to go there all the time to shoot guns off the bridge day and night and never saw a thing(this was before there were houses around there). I don't know what type of bridge was there before this one was built. There weren't many farms there in the 1800's let alone any that would have been wealthy enough to have slaves. There is the Mathew's place near there (next to Trinity School). They may have owned slaves but I serously doubt they would have hung any. I really don't know if it was even built prior to the Civil War.
