Sighting at Rotherwood Mansion

Reader Ken e-mails concering Rotherwood Mansion in Kingsport:

Around 1995 while fishing along the bank of Rotherwood Mansion. Me and my family were enjoying the warm, sunny day. There were 4 of us on the bank next to the bridge. Laughter caught my attention so I looked up and there was a female and a male dressed in wedding clothing coming down the outside steps of Rotherwood mansion toward the river were we were fishing on the other side. This to anyone would look to be normal, but I'm not finished with the story. The couple had on old timey clothing the male was wearing a hat that people would call a top hat these days, the laughter seemed they were very much happy and in love. I turned to my brother and said look, turned and pointed at the direction of the laughter, they were gone, and my brother looked at me like I was crazy nothing was there, they vanished. For weeks I just talked about what happened and it stayed on my mind, until I went to the library and dug up some info on Rotherwood mansion. I'm not saying this was the lady in white but what I saw was definitely not my imagination you read the story of lady in white at Rotherwood mansion and you be the judge.... I say it was ghosts!!

I believe there are several different ghosts around the
grounds of Rotherwood Mansion.I wish the new owners would let the public tour the home again.

I love to go and fish down near the mansion. The last time I went it was late at nite, and I seen a woman in white walk out onto the top balcony. The funny thing is there is no way any human can access the top balcony. She sat there and watched us all nite. Just the other nite I was driving home and seen a black dog infront of the mansion. I stopped to get it. I turned my head for afew seconds and the dog just vanished. It was in the open field so I do not know what happened to it. Since then I have been facinated with these findings. I have now become a ghost hunter dedicated to finding out the bottom line of these occourances.

I lived in Kingsport and just up the hill from river road and the river, very close to the mansion. I didn't know of the hauntings until I moved into that westend of Kingsport, being orginally from another town there. But, I did have my own haunting in the house I rented. It was nothing that was scary but fascinating to me at the time. There was a spirit that lived in the house and wanted to be validated so he could move on, which after 2 yrs, he did move on. I was told the land surrounding had been this are had been a battle field during the Native American times, so he had died there and he had no one to cry for him, so by validating his existence allowed him to move on. I had several sensitive people come by to help us know what and why he was there. The landlady said once, that the lady who had lived there before was nuts and always said there was always a man looking in her window. lol.....I never told the bat, that the lady was not the insane one. I just hoped that in the end, the spirits ran the landlady off! lol.

I spent many hours of meditation and peacefulness sitting on the long wall that goes out in the river in front of the mansion before going to work. It was my place to go and get grounded before walking into the world of insanity at work. I found it hard to imagine while sitting there any of the horrible things had went on in the one particular area. But, I do believe that the whole area is full of spirits, it was like living in twilite zone. My son, was so scared of the spirits in the house, and he was 20, that he would not stay there if I left town for the weekend. He said the doors slammed all night long and that whoever it was would come in one door walk through the whole house and go out the other door. He said they must have been searching for me. He just could not handle this particular spirit, becuase he was a sensitive also and did visit certain burial grounds and be ok with the civil war spirits, just not this particular spirit. I guessed this one spirit didn"t want the male energy in my house, other than himself. After 2 years of visitations and accepting what had happened there he left.

I moved away and apparently took an ancestor of his with me, it took more like 5 years to help him cross over. So, yes, I believe there are many more spirits in that area than just the tells of Rotherwood and Sensabaugh tunnel. Many thrill seekers seem to be keeping those spirits in their places, if they exist, and I would never doubt what anyone else says they have experienced after experiencing what I did.

Finally, I live spirit free! and happy about that fact too. Spirits take up too much of your time, they are needy and require/demand help, so I am very thankful that the door to that world closed for now, so I can move on with things I would much rather do with my life.

Maybe if someone offered to listen to those, if they exist, and ask what they need to cross over, maybe then they would go and be happy.

I live near the Rotherwood Mansion
and the Sensabaugh tunnle. They are the 2 most talked about haunted areas around Kingsport. There are many differnt stories to the mansion. One says that a 'hell hound' can be heard on dark, stormy nights.I don't know if that's true.
The sensabaugh tunnle is said to be haunded by a crying baby and if you cut the car off,you can hear a baby cry.But then when a shadow appears and you freak out,the car won't start. That IS true because it has happened to me.Goolge the tunnle and look at some of the pics.
