Political Music

The Politico wonders if campaign staffs bother to listen to the lyrics of the songs they play for their candidates, pointing out four songs used by McCain and Obama whose words don’t exactly have very nice things to say.

I’ve always wondered why Springsteen’s “Born in the USA” (lyrics here) is played at Fourth of July events and Veteran’s Day parades given that the lyrics are about as depressing as you’ll hear. But I guess most people just think the music sounds good without actually listening to the words. Much like political speeches.
